Notes on Bimbos and Bodybuilders

In this book, artist Stan Van Rompaey attempts to define the essence of all things ‘camp’ by researching the manifestations of camp past and present. Inspired by Susan Sontag’s Notes on ‘Camp’, the author presents her manifesto in which she calls for a revolutionising of everyday life, overturning conventional, heteronormative categories and language systems, celebrating excesses, eliminating shame and guilt, and a rebellious hyperawareness. Included are a wide selection of rich images depicting ‘camp’. Awarded the Dirk Lauwaert award in 2021, this book was realised with the support from the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels, Belgium.
